N-site radiation leak exercise
A RADIATION leak is to be simulated at a former nuclear power plant as part of an emergency exercise.
Chapelcross, near Annan, will host ‘Exercise Jupiter’ next Wednesday February 1, with emergency services responding as they would to a real life threat.
With the plant in the advanced stages of being decomissioned, a spokesman for site managers Magnox Ltd said: “Exercise Jupiter is a ‘level 2’ exercise to test the response which would be triggered in the unlikely event of an off-site release of radioactivity from Chapelcross Site.
“The exercise will be played out at a number of locations, including the Dumfries and Galloway Council Emergency Centre and the Dumfries and Galloway Police Headquarters.”
She added: “The main objectives of the exercise include the testing of the off-site plan and to enhance the coordinated multi-agency response.”
